Department of Science

At Kingsfold International Academy (KIA), Science is an important part of the curriculum executed to bring to the knowledge of our students the latest science curriculum, scientific discoveries, and educational and scientific applications, both in the lower school (Years 7, 8 and 9) and higher school (Year 10, 11 and 12).
In KIA, the science department participates in the following national and international examinations: Checkpoint, IGCSE, SAT, WAEC, NECO, BECE, and JAMB.
For checkpoint in Year 7, the different science subject disciplines are integrated and taught by a single teacher, whereas from years 8 and 9 onward, we begin to teach Biology, Chemistry and Physics as separate subjects, each delivered by the subject specialist. When students successfully moved from Junior terminal class (Year 9) to Senior first year (Year 10) choose their optional subjects, those with a passion for science may decide to study all three science subjects, but we insist that every student takes at least one science subject for the next three years, leading to Year 12 WASSCE and IGCSE exams.
At all levels, science is very much a practical subject and our science lessons take place in modern and well-equipped laboratories, where students are given frequent opportunities to conduct practical investigations and find their solutions to scientific questions. Hands-on experience not only improves understanding of specific ideas but also develops the skills in creative thinking and problem solving which will benefit students in their future lives regardless of which career paths they choose to follow.
We partake and teach our students to participate in quizzes, competitions and science project exhibitions, like Olympiad, and Jet Club Science Competition to enhance the science background of our students.
We also take our students out for science excursions to firms and industries.
