In Kingsfold International Academy, aside from teaching languages as subjects, the Department promotes language awareness, learning and acquisition. Even though the English Language remains the language of instruction in the school, students are encouraged to be multilingual through the promotion of other languages in the school. The subjects taught in the Department are English Language, Literature-in-English, French, Igbo and Yoruba. Yoruba, French and Igbo Languages are promoted in the school through different activities like drama, debate and Language Week programmes. The aim of this is to raise learners who can communicate well in their immediate environment without neglecting the global opportunities available to them through a good mastery of English and French Languages.
Nigerian and British curricula are blended for language subjects. In Year 9 (JSS3), the students take English Language, Mathematics and Science for the British Checkpoint examination. This implies that only English Language is taken at this stage in the Checkpoint examination. Other subjects (Yoruba, French and Igbo Languages) are taken for BECE (Basic Education Certificate Examination). In Year 12 (SS3), because of the blended curricula, the students can take IGCSE, NECO, WASSCE, JAMB, and SAT examinations. All the subjects in the Department can be taken at this level except where provisions are not made by any of these exam bodies.
Bearing in mind the role that language plays in our daily lives, we work tirelessly to ensure that our students attain their maximum potential irrespective of their background and individual differences. This is evident in the seamless transitions of our students to universities of international repute.
